East Galveston Bay, Bolivar Peninsula Fishing Report

Well, we got our first cool front past the coast last week.  Fishing, for us, was only fair.  Most trips getting 10-15 trout and some nice reds.  The fish are slowly going back to eating more shrimp than croaker.  On my boat, we used croaker - free-lining them.  When the tide was moving strong and the fish were feeding good, that worked fine.  When the tide was weak, live shrimp under a popping cork was the way to go.  We had strong winds in the mornings but by mid-day the bay was flat.  Fishing in the late afternoon was great on bay reefs in East Galveston Bay.  Fishing should get good in the weeks to come as fish move back to the shorelines and rocks.  Fishing marsh drains for flounder should heat up as the water cools with more passing fronts.  Until next week, see you on the water.
