FISHING REPORT 2/22/2016 – East Galveston Bay and Crystal Beach Texas
With warmer days and stronger tides, the Spring transition period is fast approaching. Each day of sun brings warmer water temps, which are bringing us closer to those magic numbers in the mid 60’s. During March and April, you will see the fish go from being sluggish from the cold water temps to being more active and feeding more aggressively as the waters warm and the bait starts to move out of the bay marshes and bayous. This is my favorite time of year to wade, using soft plastics, in deeper areas along the south shoreline of East Galveston Bay where bay marshes drain and on scattered, muddy shell bottoms along the shoreline. Spring Breakers can look forward to fair numbers of reds and trout on shorelines and along rocks in East Galveston Bay. Soon to follow will be drift fishing the bay reefs with live bait and soft plastics.
This is the first of my weekly fishing reports.
Until next week, see you on the water.
