Crystal Beach Fishing Report for the Galveston bay Complex

Crystal Beach Texas and the Galveston Bay Complex Fishing Report

Last week’s weather did not work with coastal anglers.  Monday was wild and crazy with rain and 40+ mph winds.  Tuesday and Wednesday the tides were very low from the strong winds out of the northwest and we couldn’t even launch the boats.  Thursday we were finally able to get out on the water and found good numbers of trout along the south shoreline between Fat Rat Pass and Siever’s Cut.  In deeper areas by bay marsh drains, fish were hitting dark plastics worked slowly.  We had good luck as the tide moved and then slowed about an hour later.  Some fish in the 2-3 pound range but most were just keepers in the 16-17 inch range but still fun to catch.  A fair number of fish were boxed during the morning trip.  The big drawback has been the tide being so low but with lighter south-southeast winds, water levels returned to close to normal and fishing did pick up on Saturday and Sunday.  If conditions continue in improve, areas east of Stingaree Cut should get right back into the action like in the past weeks.  Looks like for the start of March there will be good weather for the Spring Breakers wanting to wet a line.  Also, for those anglers with a competitive side, there are many local fishing tournaments coming up.  The Stingaree Saltwater Slam Fishing Tournament is coming up on 4/30/2016.  For more info go to www.BolivarPeninsulaTexas.com under Events.  With a larger number of boats being on the water, remember to be courteous to others fishing and boating.  The Bolivar Peninsula/ Crystal Beach area is the place to be with protected shorelines and no long boat rides from other bays or ramps. During the upcoming months as you start to plan you fishing trips, remember to take a kid fishing – your own and their friends.  The sooner you start them fishing the more they will love it – for a lifetime.  I was one of the lucky one whose parents loved fishing and the outdoors and now my son loves it as much as I do.  There is no better time to start your own traditions with you and your family.
Until next week, see you on the water.
