Mother Nature was not kind to coastal anglers along the upper Texas for most of this past week. Strong winds, 35-40 mph, and heavy rain coupled with flooding tides made for impossible conditions most of the week. The first day out for me was Friday. The tide was very high and we were forced to fish very close to the shoreline. We were fishing with live shrimp under a popping cork. Lots of undersized reds and trout but did manage to box a handful of keepers. Overall, action was very slow. On Saturday, we found nice water holding in the back bay areas. And some nicer fish holding tight against the shoreline but still no where close to normal compared with the past weeks. Sunday brought very high tides so we moved back up the shoreline between Siever's Cut and Stingaree Cut. We caught fair numbers of trout and some nice slot reds. Remember Spring Break is here and this is a great time to take your kids fishing. On Sunday, I had the opportunity to meet and fish with 3 great young men who were also hardcore fishermen. From looking at these young men, the future of coastal angling is in good hands. If Sunday was any sign, Look Out Fish!. Until next week, see you on the water.
