Galveston Bay, Crystal Beach Texas Fishing Report

Morning fishing along the East Galveston Bay shoreline was a little slow this week with low tides and very little movement.  We also had a few mornings of heavy fog until mid-morning. Fishing did pick up nicely in the afternoons as tides returned normal along shorelines and marshes. Bay shorelines holding lots of small mullet.  Afternoon waders picked up fair numbers of trout on dark colored plastics.  We had good boxes of trout but nothing big.  Some were just making the 15 inch mark. Redfish, on the other hand, were plentiful along shorelines with muddy shell and we had limits in the 25 to 27 inch range and released many others.  Most of our fish were caught on live shrimp under a popping cork fished about 2 feet deep along the salt grass - the closer the better.  We ventured out to check out bay reefs but the water was just a little off color and not much bait fish holding.  If the weather and winds will cooperate, the fish will turn on out in the middle bay reefs soon.  With lots of fresh water moving down the rivers towards our bay system, fish should stack up in lower bays and jetties.  Coastal anglers took a hit Saturday from a cold front that came through in the early morning hours bringing north winds in excess of 40 mph, which put a stop most bay fishing on our side of the bay.  Look for next week to bounce right back when water clears and winds return to more favorable directions.  Until next week, see you on the water.
