Once again the week started with strong winds and low tides but patient anglers who braved the misting rain were rewarded with excellent numbers of speckled trout and flounder. Quick limits of 30 trout were reported by several guides who fished close to the shoreline and in coves along the south shoreline of East Galveston Bay. The bait of choice was live shrimp but also received reports that top-waters and soft plastics worked well also. Mid week brought with it another front and strong north winds but as winds diminished and tides returned to more normal levels, fishing heated right back up along shorelines and mid-bay reefs. We had excellent number of trout in the 2-3 lb range and an occasional slot red. Fish were caught using live shrimp about 3 feet under a popping cork on bay reefs. Late Sunday afternoon, my wife and I had a good trip along the marsh drains on the south shoreline around Pepper Point and caught 12 nice trout and 2 slot reds. I have mentioned in previous reports that fishing should be heating up in the weeks to come - that time is NOW! Until next week, see you on the water.
