East Galveston Bay, Bolivar Peninsula Fishing Report

Fishing in East Bay is heating up fast when weather lets coastal anglers fish it.  We had good reports coming from North Jetty and around Fort Travis areas where the water is holding a little saltier.  Water conditions are not very favorable on incoming tides into East Bay pushing fresh water run-offs towards Siever's Cut.  We did fish some areas southwest of Siever's Cut and had fair numbers of trout but not consistent.  On Friday afternoon, we had excellent numbers of big trout in the 4-5 lb range on outgoing tides free-lining live croaker.  Saturday morning was even better fishing on bay reefs on the north side of the bay.  We had a lot of mullet staging on all of the bay reefs east of Siever's Cut.  Some smaller fish working under birds along with big gafftop.  We fished the bay reefs triggering on bait fish and slicks.  There were a lot of slicks popping.  Just run trolling motor 30-40 yds behind them and drift toward them.  Remember to be courteous to other anglers fishing the same area.  Sunday we went out to the same area under different conditions - ENE winds 15-20 mph.  We could not drift the croaker and had to anchor the boat.  It was a little slower because we had to wait for them to move through.  but we had a nice box of big trout by mid-morning.  The biggest one was in the 6 lb range and was caught by a 13 yr old young man.  So take your kids fishing - they will love it!  And remember to enter them in the CCA Star Tournament - that big fish might land them a big scholarship.  Until next week, see you on the water.
