East Galveston Bay, Crystal Beach Fishing Report

Looks like the wet, windy weather will stick around a while longer.  Early in the week, we had 2 days of good fishing in East Bay. We brought in nice boxes of trout from shorelines and marsh drains.  With very high tides (3+ feet above normal), we just had to get right up on the salt grass edge.  Good numbers of trout and an occasional redfish showing up.  We are still fishing live shrimp under a popping cork about 2 feet deep.  You just have to wait them out.  For several days midweek, we couldn't go out because of high tides - near knee deep water over my dock!  I couldn't even get to my boat...again!  We got back out Friday morning and picked up 18 nice trout using live croakers in the same areas along the south shoreline.  Saturday morning, we woke up to high winds and rain...again.  But in the mid-afternoon, we went back to the same areas with live croakers and caught some nice trout...one was close to 6 lbs and released her to fight another day.  Sunday brought a little calmer conditions but we had to dodge storms all morning.  Fishing had picked up mid-morning and we were boxing nice trout in the 2-3 lb range on live shrimp.  Then our luck ran out when the wind shifted to the north 15-20 mph.  That finished our day about 11:30 but we ended up with a nice box of trout.  If you are planning a fishing trip on Bolivar Peninsula, it would be a good idea to call the bait camps first - live bait has been scarce due to fresh water run-off.  Until next week, see you on the water.
