East Galveston Bay, Bolivar Peninsula Fishing Report

Strong storms and high winds hurt fishing 4 out of the 7 days last week.  We had to stay up close to the shorelines for most of the week because of the weather.  We had fair numbers of trout and nice reds showing up.  Live shrimp under a popping cork was used.  Normally we fish the marsh drains but with the local rain run-offs, we moved to areas without marsh drains.  We were able to get out on bay reefs a few days where we found excellent numbers of big trout with the largest pushing 8 lbs.  Our groups are still fishing live croaker and just free-lining them with no weight.  Fish are moving a lot so, again, make short moves - 50-100 yds - using trolling motor.  East Bay is still hanging in there.  We have fresh water on the west end towards the ship channel.  The areas along Fort Travis are holding good numbers of trout as well as lower Galveston Bay from Pelican Island to Causeway.  Watch for working birds and slicks.  If and when the rain stops, fishing will heat up fast.  Just a reminder - from the run-offs, there are poles and large debris floating in the bay system so please wait til daylight to run.  Until next week, see you on the water.
