East Galveston Bay, Bolivar Peninsula Fishing Report

Monday's high tides were 3 to 4 feet above normal.  Water conditions were very off color with winds at 15-20 mph.  But mid-week fishing and through the weekend bounced back and was HOT in East Galveston Bay.  Shorelines and bay reefs produced great numbers of trout.  We fished shorelines on Wednesday and Thursday and caught good numbers of trout in the 2 to 3 lb. range. Just target on birds working and small shad hitting the water.  We took the trolling motor and followed pods of shad and working birds using live shrimp under a popping cork about 2 feet deep.  On Friday, we fished with live croakers on mid-bay reefs.  We are finally catching good numbers of big trout with the croakers.  We fished the croaker free-lined with no weight.  You just have to wait them out.  Just make short moves about 50 - 75 yds on the reefs.  And, be patient and look for bait fish and slicks popping.  The bite on croaker will get even better in the weeks to follow.  On Saturday, we caught and released 2 fish in the 5 lb range and 1 that was over 7 lbs so they could fight another day.  The wind was back up to 20+ mph on Sunday morning so we hit the south shoreline again and found good numbers of nice trout and got back in around 11:00 am.  So, adjust to the weather conditions each day and the fish will show up.  Until next week, see you on the water.
