East Galveston Bay, Bolivar Peninsula Fishing Report

Well finally!  Last week the weather and wind gave the coastal angler a break in the Galveston Bay area.  South-Southeast winds pushed a little better water into the bay system.  Water is still fresh on top but getting better with every tide.  Fishing on bay reefs in East Bay has been excellent.  Strong morning tides had fish feeding heavily.  We had good numbers of trout - a few of the pushing that 8 lb. mark - and many were in the 3-4 lb. range.  There were also some slot reds and big bull reds caught as well.  Other areas, like Sand Island and Pelican Island, are holding great looking water and good numbers of trout.  You can actually taste the salt in the water - finally!  Most all of our trout and reds have been coming off of free-lining live croaker.  But good numbers have been coming off of soft plastics also.  Just remember to work them slow with water still being fresh on top in some areas.  We are still watching for slicks and mullets on reefs and shorelines.  The rock walls along the front shorelines of East Bay are also holding good numbers of slot reds - 20 to 26 inches.  Just cast bait as close as you can to the rocks.  We have been catching some very nice trout in the 6 to 8 lb range so remember to enter you and your young ones in the STAR Tournament - you just never know. Until next week, see you on the water.
