East Galveston Bay, Bolivar Peninsula Fishing Report

This week's report is going to be a little shorter than normal since the weather prevented us from going out a couple of days and on the days we made it out, we brought in fish but we really had to work for it.  After the big rain on Friday, fishing turned on!. Even though we had to dodge some rain showers, the fishing on Saturday was excellent!  We brought in a very nice box of trout (most in the 3-4 lb range) but some were close to 5 lbs.  There were also two big girls that were caught.  One of them was 28 1/2 inches (pictured above) and the other once was 27 inches.  After some pictures were taken, they were both released.  Sunday also produced some good numbers of trout on the mid bay reefs.  We are still free-lining live croaker but also had success with soft plastics - chartreuse in color.  With all of the fresh water and run-off, live bait (both croaker and shrimp) is getting hard to come by in most of the Galveston Bay Complex so be sure to check availability with the bait camps.  Just a reminder that the CCA Star Tournament has started and runs through Labor Day and that truck-boat-motor-trailer package or that $25,000 scholarship is only one cast away.  Until next week, see you on the water.
