East Galveston Bay, Bolivar Peninsula Fishing Report

It's that time of year - wind is down, good tides and green water in the bay system.  Fishing over the last week was wide open most of the week.  Great numbers of big trout were caught on bay wells and shell pads.  We had great numbers of fish on the bay reefs as well.  We are still using live croaker - just free-lining them.  The only drawback is that the croaker are running small but are getting a little better.  We released 4 fish in the 7 lb. range last week and had excellent numbers in the 4 to 5 lb range.  Wednesday we hit the rocks along the shoreline in East Bay with live shrimp under a popping cork and boxed limits of just keeper trout along with some nice reds.  Just keep the popping cork right on the edge of the rocks groins.  Good numbers of bull reds are showing up on bay reefs and along the ship channel.  If the weather stays good, fishing will get even better - if that's possible.  It's the perfect time to take your kids fishing and get them hooked on it the way your Dad got you hooked on it.  Until next week, see you on the water.
