East Galveston Bay, Bolivar Peninsula Fishing Report

Our bay system is finally getting a little salt back on the top in some areas.  Early in the week, we had good strong tides in the afternoons which helped to dump out and flush the bays during the night.  We are catching excellent numbers of nice trout on bay reefs in East Galveston Bay and the bait of choice for our guides is live croaker.  But, we saw a lot of nice fish being caught on other boats using live shrimp as well.  At the local bait camps, the shrimp are staying alive much better than in the past weeks since the fresh water is gradually being flushed out.  We have been fishing the Bolivar shorelines along the rocks for reds and have had fair numbers.  If you look close, you can see the reds in the rocks - look for the tails of the feeding reds. Just throw down the side and cast right on the edge of the rocks AND HOLD ON!  Strong south-southwest winds in excess of 25 mph set us back on Sunday and Monday and trashed the bay.  Places like Bird Island will be turning on with live shrimp and croaker when the water clears up. Looking at the rest of the bay, areas along the ship channel at well heads are holding good number of trout.  Texas City shorelines along Skyline Dr is holding good numbers of trout also,  So, take your time and look around in different places.  The fish are slowly getting back into their regular patterns.  Until next week, see you on the water.
