East Galveston Bay, Bolivar Peninsula Fishing Report

Light winds allowed coastal anglers to take advantage of bay wells and shell reefs along the Houston Ship Channel.  Excellent numbers of trout and reds being brought in.  Some were over-sized but fun to catch.  We had good numbers of fish on live croakers but live shrimp is working well also.  We have been on Deep Reef most of the week but Mid Bay Reef is holding good numbers also. Big schools of small mullet are moving on to the reefs mid-morning so don't leave - just wait it out.  Last week we had tides in the morning but it dumped in the afternoon.  One big thing is to fish the edges of the reefs where the water drops from 4 1/2 ft to about 7 1/2 ft.  Fish are holding in those areas.  The shorelines are holding fair numbers at best but not consistently - fishing live shrimp under a popping cork most catches are small trout with just a few keepers mixed in.  Bird Island and the rocks along the Bolivar shoreline are holding fair to good numbers of slot reds.  Until next week, see you on the water.
