East Galveston Bay, Bolivar Peninsula Fishing Report

I know it's only early April but I think our summer time pattern is starting.  We had some great boxes of nice trout on the bay reefs in East Galveston Bay.  You can stop on just about any bay reef and catch fish.  Just look for the tide lines and slicks.  There are big schools of gaff top showing up under the birds along with the trout and reds.  From one spot, I could see 5 sets of birds working. We are still using live shrimp under a popping cork but the live croaker bite for trout is starting to heat up.  We like to free line them behind the boat while drifting. The water temp has his that magic number of 70 degrees and the fish are very active.  The shorelines are holding some good numbers of reds and some smaller trout with some keepers mixed in.  If the weather stays good, look for fishing to get even better...if that's possible.  Live bait is available all along the Bolivar Peninsula.  Until next week, see you on the water.
