East Galveston Bay, Bolivar Peninsula Fishing Report

It's that time of the year when deer season is winding down and the fishing equipment gets dusted off and new line is put on the reels. As we head into February and March, the water temp will start to creep up one degree at a time and the fish start to be more active. During this time, I like to use live shrimp under a popping cork about 3 feet deep along the sides of the deeper bayous as the tide comes in. Reds and trout will be following the cuts on to protected shorelines and reefs. Look for schools of bait fish along the salt grass and marsh drains and cast to the outside edge of the bait fish and hold on! The afternoons tend to be a little more productive after the sun heats the water for a few hours. I like fishing the bay reefs in the late afternoon with live shrimp about 4 feet deep or more under a popping cork. As our bay gets warmer and the weather gets more stable, the bird action will heat up fast as the shrimp move out into the open bay. Spring Break will be here soon so don't wait to last minute to book your trip. See you on the water soon!
