East Galveston Bay, Bolivar Peninsula Fishing Report

April has not been friendly to the coastal anglers. But the fishing has been holding up really good considering the late cool fronts coming down every few days. We have had some good days on the bay last week with the strong S-SE winds pumping a lot of water into the marsh had the fish feeding great. We had some good boxes of reds in the 22-26 inch range and some nice trout in the 17-23 inch range. We are still fishing the marsh lakes and drains using live shrimp under a popping cork about 2 ft deep. The water is in fair shape and should get better as winds turn back to the south. As the weather stabilizes, look for more action on bay reefs and the bird action should follow as the shrimp push into the middle of the bay. Live shrimp is available on the peninsula along with live croaker also. Until next week, see you on the water.
